Veggie Sausage Strata
As a fusion of our favorite comfort foods and delightful snacks, this healthy snacks recipe is a perfect recipe on a Sunday or a holiday. The traditional veggie sausage strata make an ideal option as a brunch too. However, you need to arrange the ingredients one day prior. You can treat a large group of 12 people with this recipe.
Italian sausage: 2 pounds
Green peppers: 2 (coarsely chopped)
Onion: 1 (chopped)
Whole milk: 2 cups
Salt: 2 teaspoons
White pepper: 2 teaspoons
Ground mustard: 2 teaspoons
Bread: 12 slices (cut into 1/2-inch pieces)
Spinach: 10 ounces (frozen and chopped)
Swiss cheese: 2 cups (shredded)
Cheddar cheese: 2 cups (shredded)
Zucchini: 1 (cut into 1/4-inch slices)
Healthy Snacks: Method
Take a large frying pan. Add the sausage, green peppers, and onion. Cook them over medium heat until the meat changes color. Transfer it onto a plate. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs by adding milk, mustard, salt, and pepper. Now, in the mixture, add the cooked sausage. One by one, add the bread slices, spinach, zucchini, and cheese. Take a rectangular shaped large baking dish and grease it with olive oil or butter. Transfer this whole mixture into the baking dish and refrigerate overnight. Hence, if you want to prepare this dish as a breakfast, you need to prepare the ingredients on the previous night.
Remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and give a standing time of at least 30 minutes. Bake into an oven at 350 degrees with a lid for 40 minutes. You can use an aluminum foil as the cover too. Now, uncover it and again bake for 40-45 minutes. After 40 minutes, you need to check whether there is any lump inside by inserting a knife or a toothpick. If the knife or toothpick comes out clean, the food is done. Cut the strata into equal pieces for twelve people or just the way you like it. Serve it hot or cold as per the preferences of your guests.
